The Gorilla Organization works internationally to save the world's last remaining gorillas in the wild by funding small grass-roots projects, run by local African partners, that tackle the real threats to the gorillas' long term survival.
Today gorillas are threatened, not due to a demand for their meat or their infants, but due to a demand for the lush forest in which they live. For the poverty-stricken communities around the gorilla habitat, it is the gorilla forest that provides them with many of their fundamental human needs, but sadly, the collection of basic resources, such as water and firewood, is destroying the gorilla habitat and in turn the gorillas.
The Gorilla Organization’s unique community-based approach to conservation promotes sustainable livelihoods, nurtures young conservationists of the future and empowers local people to tackle the main threats to the gorillas’ survival.

On Saturday September 26 2010, Grumpy Gorilla will be supporting runners participating in The Great Gorilla Run. A selection of goodies from the website will be added to the handout bags which every runner will be given.
Since the first Great Gorilla Run in 2003, thousands of people have donned gorilla suits and walked, run or jogged the 7km City of London route, taking in sights such as Tower Bridge and The Tate Modern. If you like dressing up and helping save endangered creatures from extinction, this is the charity fun run for you. The Gorilla Organisation say that the Great Gorilla Runners play a crucial role in helping to save the remaining 700 mountain gorillas left in the wild.
If you want to participate in the run you can register at www.greatgorillas.org.
